Ways of Something

Ways of Something is a contemporary remake of John Berger’s BBC documentary, Ways of Seeing (1972). Commissioned by The One Minutes and compiled by Lorna Mills, the second episode consists of one-minute videos by twenty eight web-based artists who commonly work with 3D rendering, gifs, film remix, webcam performances, and websites to describe the cacophonous conditions of art making after the internet. The original second episode, is a contentious and sometimes maddening look at the female nude in the western tradition. Ways of Something is in effect, art about art about television about the internet.

For The One Minutes Series, every month a different artist is asked to curate a series of One Minute films. The One Minutes Series focuses on the perception and understanding of the moving image. Twenty museums and cultural spaces around the world are subscribers, and show the series within their organisations.

Ways of Something is now part of the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art.

About Lorna Mills

Canadian artist Lorna Mills has exhibited her work in exhibitions since the early 1990’s, both in Canada and internationally. Her practice has included obsessive Ilfochrome printing, obsessive painting, obsessive super 8 film & video, and obsessive on-line animated GIFs incorporated into restrained off-line installation work.
