Internet art is a fascinating movement in both aesthetics and technology, spanning many types of communities online. However, internet art is often seen as a confusing space for the traditional gallery world to navigate, regardless of its relevance in contemporary culture. Carrie Gates will present a brief history of the highlights of historical internet art from the late 90s forward, focusing on technological advances and their relationship to aesthetics, the intersections of identity politics and personal expression on the web, and current trends and challenges with the curation and archiving of internet art within traditional and online gallery spaces.
This talk is a presented in collaboration with MoSo Conference 2016 and PAVED Arts.
